Bringing Home Your New Kitten

On this page you will find recommended supplies and products we use to help make your kitten's transition into your home easier.

Food

Your kitten will be eating raw meat from VIVA Raw along with, Nulo kitten canned and Stella & Chewy's raw coated kibble. We are partners with Viva Raw and have a 20% off discount code if you'd like to order from them, just click here or use "ALLEGIANCEMC" at checkout. They even have a clean bowl guarantee and will refund your first order if your pet doesn't like it!  It is important to keep your kitten on a high quality diet. I strongly recommend transitioning your kitten to a raw-only diet within the first few weeks of having them home. All of our cats are on a strictly raw diet unless pregnant/nursing/weaning. You should allow your kitten to eat as much as they'd like, they are growing! If you are feeding them dry kibble as part of their diet, it should be left out for them to free feed on. Freeze-dried raw morsels are great to leave out for them to snack on or as a topper to their kibble/meals.

Litter

Your kitten will be litter box trained and using Arm & Hammer multi-cat clump & seal litter. I recommend the Litter Robot 4, Neakasa, or a xl stainless steel litter box. If you are using a litter robot, it may need to be turned off and scooped like a regular litter box until your kitten weighs at least 5 lbs due to the sensors on it.

Toys/Misc.

Your kitten will be sent home with a goodie bag of toys and sample food. In their new home, they should be provided with a cat tree, interactive toys, a window hammock, and a bed. I recommend a stainless steel water fountain for drinking and shallow bowls or plates for eating to prevent whisker fatigue.

Grooming

All kittens are sent home with a fresh bath and nail trim. Maine Coons are known for their beautiful fluffy coats. It can take a couple of years for their coats and mane to fully develop. It is very important to brush your Maine Coon a couple of times a week to prevent matting. It is best to have pet hair clippers on hand if you do find a hair matt on your cat. Using scissors will likely injure them, and you will not be able to fully remove the hair matt from their skin. Kitten fur is easy to maintain, but you need to brush them regularly so that they are familiar with the process as they grow. Your kittens' nails should also be clipped about 1-2 times a month.
